Meet Kizzy!

Kizzy will be the main draw for the Royal Air Force Association stand at the Highcliffe Fete on 27th July (starts at 11.00am). He’ll be luring folk over to the cushion raffle!
I LOVE this design, so a few charities have received similar cushions. Sadly I’ve run out of the jade velvet now, but it looks great in pink and silver, so there may be a few more of those soon!
Ok, got the weekend events wrong!
I shall be opening the Fawley Village Fete on Saturday at 11.00am,but there’s no Highcliffe Fete til the 27th. Got a bit over excited. Apologies!
Several cushions being raffled this weekend and other tickets available now!
I’m opening the Fawley Village Fete this Saturday, 6th July and of course I’m taking a cushion.
Sunday, 7th July the Highcliffe Fete has a cushion on the RAF Association stand (I thought the RNLI were there too, but that ones on the 27th!)
Both the Highcliffe and Fawley events start at 11.00am
Another cushion will be in a private raffle for PICKs disease.
Tickets for the cushion for Feline Rescue on the Isle of Wight are on sale until 12th July, at Pet Doctors in Newport, Ryde and Lake (the cushion is at Newport), and then on 13th July at the Summer Fair in East Cowes at Holy Cross School, Millfield Avenue (between 10.00am and 13.30).
Tickets for the Froglife cushion are on line until 26th July on the Froglife website or at Froglife Events.
So many charities, so little time!
I’ve just updated the list of charities that have asked for a cushion. I hadn’t realised I’d left it for so long, and I’m astonished at the sheer variety of opportunities for support and care being offered by wonderful people giving time and compassion to their groups. They are true heroes!
At last, appliqué hearts for the PICK’s support group
Having got my tacky fabric glue and extra sharp scissors, I thought I’d risk an appliqué heart again! Hooray! Although if I’d used a same colour thread on the heart the fluffy bits of velvet would look neater, I’m quite pleased with it.
I’m starting to run low on buttons so raided ye olde zip box. Sadly the one I found was a little on the short side. It took two of us to persuade the cushion pad to go in!
It’s off to Southbourne Dorset, where Jean Tigg is having a cream tea on July 7th for the PICK’s disease support group. This is fronto-temporal dementia, a cruel disease which has a huge impact on the sufferers and their families. I really hope my cushion helps to raise some much needed funds.
Deliveries take place in strange places!
A couple of weeks ago, I caught up with Tessa Makepeace of Test Valley Community Services at Romsey Abbey, where she was hosting a volunteers information weekend, to deliver her cushion.
The next day it was Sainsburys at Hedge End to meet Dianne Hatfield who was picking up her cushion for Hearing Dogs.
I’ve just come back from there this evening delivering the same style cushion to June Norris who has an event for Parkinson’s UK this weekend. I’m sure the shoppers are getting used to seeing women brandishing cushions! Here’s June receiving her cushion:
Rescued! An owl for Froglife!
I have to be honest, I found it tricky working out what to make for Froglife! They could have a “proper”, sensible frog, but would you want it on your settee? Or a disrespectful, crazy one, but that didn’t seem right, so an owl it is!
I bought this amazing pattern last year from http://www.bfc-creations.com/ to make a fabulous blue velvet quilt.
I made the smallest size owl (the largest takes 9 hours to sew out!), on a russet moleskin like fabric. Disaster! The dense stitches made the fabric crunckle up! After sleeping on it I thought I’d try cutting it out and using it as an appliqué. I know, my attempts at that so far had been a disaster! I bought some spray on fabric glue so the beastie wouldn’t move on the velvet, bought some very fine, sharp scissors, used a straight rather than a zigzag stitch and kept my fingers crossed! It worked!
Cushions into coppers!
This has been an amazing project – first, trying to work out what to make, then dashing around and starting to meet people who are doing astonshing things to support others and now, starting to hear how much the cushions are making! I have created a page for this, but I’m a bit over-excited by the amounts, and needed to share!
Raffles where the cushions have been the only or main prize have (so far) bought in £80, £47.50, £67 and £103. A HUGE raffle which included a cushion bought in £1,700.
Five down – 55 to go!!!
Delivery day on the Isle of Wight!
Carisbrooke Priory (one of the recipients) made us welcome in their newly opened tea room and members of the other five charities, Feline Welfare, Feathered Friends Rescue, Parkinson’s UK, the Asthma swimming association and First Act arrived in heavy rain and thick mist to bring a ray of sunshine to a pretty miserable afternoon.
Cushions were distributed, friends were made, there was much debate about the best way to make money from the cushions. Feline Rescue are selling tickets through local vets until their special fundraising day in July. The others are busy plotting!
Here we all are (yes, that’s me on the left and this is one of the pictures which led to a new get fit campaign!)
